OUR JOURNEY

In 2020, Amanda and Matt planted a small hobby orchard.  Over the next few years the orchard grew and the challenges facing commercial fruit growers became obvious.  

 

Over the same time, food affordability was getting worse.

Matt had a gnawing question.  Time is finite.  Improving grower viability is critical.  Why would he wait another season before focusing on this?

He didn't have a good answer.

Matt resigned from a leadership role at a growing tech company.  Amanda and Matt bought a fixer-upper commercial apple orchard.  Mike, who Matt had worked with for many years, joined to lead the robotics work.  

​

Finite was born.

AI is changing how business are run. Physical AI is rapidly maturing - making robotics increasingly viable.

 

At the same time, there is a growing appetite for a healthier and more durable food supply.  Tree crops are an ideal option.   

Finite is purpose-driven, focused on dramatically improving the economic viability and durability of fruit growers.  We need these growers to thrive - as thriving fruit growers means abundant and affordable fruit for everyone.  

 

Finite is using the new AI toolbox to rapidly develop orchard robots, with a small and highly equipped team, making this future a reality.

2024

FINITE IS FOUNDED

Commercial orchard purchased.  Initial fruitlet vision system developed and validated in the orchard.  Scaled robotic arm operation developed and tested.  In-orchard testing of a wide variety of thinning end-effector designs.  Side-by-side mounted robotic operation demonstrated.  Lab environment established and custom arm development complete. 

2025

FULL-SIZE ROVER PROTOTYPE

Full-size rover prototype developed and deployed in Finite's test orchard.  Continued development at a larger commercial orchard. Refinement of autonomy, vision, kinematic, and end-effector systems.  Extensive thinning logic developments based on expert growers' feedback.  Commercial rover design refined.
